Philosophy of Science Colloquium, Winter Term 2019/20
The role of values and scientific objectivity in Logical Empiricism

Public talks

18.10.2019, 15-16:30, NIG, HS 2H

Torben Spaak (Stockholm):
Kelsen's meta-Ethics.

I plan to focus on Kelsen's general view of the status of morality and discuss a non-cognitivist, a relativist, and a fictionalist interpretation of his writings. Having done that, I plan to consider the implications for his legal philosophy of his meta-ethics, such as his view of legal science as a  pure science, and of science, more generally, as a value-free (or value-neutral) enterprise, his critique of natural law theory, and his views on democracy and moral toleration.

06.12.2019, 15-16:30, NIG, HS 3C

Marta Sznajder (LMU Munich):
Rationality and objectivity in Carnap's inductive logic

13.12.2019, 15-16:30, NIG, HS 3C

Matthias Neuber (Universität Tübingen):
